CVH Foundation News: Bone density scan results--shocking
Since the installation of the Hologic 4500 Bone Densitometer at Cascade Valley Hospital this past April, 250 patients have learned about the state of the structure that keeps their body upright. None were more shocked than Radiologic Technologist Lynne Black.
"At 37 years old my physician and I probably would not have considered that I needed a bone scan for another 10 to 15 years," shared Lynne. "During the installation process we all practiced on each other. When my results were read I was shocked to find I was one point below being considered osteoporotic."

When Lynne took the results to her regular health care provider he too was shocked. Here was an active, premenopausal, young woman whose job requires a lot of weight bearing exercise. She even eats calcium-rich dairy products on a regular basis. Her only risk factor is that her grandmother suffered from osteoporosis.
"Thank goodness I found out early. If I had waited, the deterioration would have been severe. At this point I can still do a lot to help fight the disease.
"I want to encourage all women to have a baseline bone density exam," advised Lynne.
The Hologic 4500 Bone Densitometer provides a safe, comfortable, accurate examination and is the current "gold standard" for bone density testing. It is one of the major pieces of equipment donated to the hospital by Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation.
As an independent, not-for-profit organization, the Foundation works year-round to raise, manage, and disburse funds to benefit local health care. The bone densitometer is a great example of how your contributions to the Foundation will benefit lives in our communities.
Tree of Reflections
The Foundation's next major fundraising event is the 15th Annual Tree of Reflections. This fundraiser features a beautiful holiday tree in the Cascade Valley Hospital lobby that donors can help decorate through the purchase of ornaments.
A tas-deductible gift of $10 purchases an ornament with a tag indicating the donor and recipient. For a $20 donation, elegant embellishments are added to the ornament.
Your ornament may represent a tribute or memorial to someone special in your life. You might honor an employee, acknowledge a friendship, or just convey holiday greetings. After the holidays, the ornament is sent to the honoree or given to the donor.
To purchase one or more ornaments, contact Joan Miles at 360-435-2133, or joanm@cascadevalley.org. You can also learn more about the Foundation and the Tree of Reflections, as well as download an order form, by going to the Foundation section of our web site.
