Fund Raising for ACS
Through research, education, advocacy, and service the American Cancer Society provides hope for the future...progress towards a cure...and answers to cancer questions and concerns. Money raised through Relay For Life helps fund a significant portion of these programs and services.

For the past three years Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics has been involved in the Marysville Relay. Through corporate sponsorship and fund raising by individual team members they show their spirit and commitment do our communities. The 2004 Relay , July 23 and 24, was their best fundraising effort yet…over $5,000. Team members wrote letters to family and friends requesting donations, held a bake sale, and set up donation cans.

The Relay - 18 Hours of Walking
Relay For Life is about more than just raising funds. It is about being a community that takes up the fight against cancer. For team members spending the night together walking around the Marysville Pilchuck track, it is the celebration after the fundraising ends.

"The opening ceremony is definitely one of the most powerful moments of the Relay," commented Michelle Crawford, Team Captain. "Cancer Survivors are invited to come to the Relay and take the opening lap together. It is very hopeful and emotional to see all of the people (including my mother-in-law) who have survived cancer walking with their family and friends."

But why stay up all night?

"Well, as a cancer survivor myself it was very important to me," shared team member Leslie Jackson. "Cancer never sleeps either! When you have it you just have to keep pressing on, knowing tomorrow will be a new day."

"I hope more people in our communities read this and decide to form a team next year," added Margaret Fuhrman, another cancer survivor on the Cascade Crusaders teams. "I have been active in Relay For Life for eight years and have seen the good ACS does."
