Reaching Out: CVHC nurses cuddle, care, and share

Healthy Baby Fair
Parents learn to care for a newborn in a baby class. New babies, small children, and that piece of stereo equipment your brother-in-law gave you when he bought a new one all have one thing in common. None come with an owner's manual. While that old joke may no longer make you laugh, it still is true.

Combining reports from Washington Health Foundation and Washington State Office of Financial Management results in a conservative estimate of over 5,000 babies born in the North Snohomish County region in 2003. That equates to a lot of parents laying awake nights worrying and wondering where they can turn for help.

On Thursday, May 20 the nurses who work in the Family Birthing Center at Cascade Valley Hospital will be hosting Cuddling, Caring, Sharing - A Fair for Babies and Their Parents. With over 180 combined years of helping bring babies into this world, these specially trained nurses have accumulated quite a file of local resources for new parents. They chose this day to share these helpful tools with moms, dads, and their babies (infant to four years old).

"This is going to a lot of fun for moms and dads," urged Gloria Chase, RN. "There will also be some activities for the babies' brothers and sisters."

The Fair, scheduled from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Cascade Conference Room just north of Cascade Valley Hospital, will include:
